Trump provided some concrete answers as to what his second term would look like. It ain’t pretty, folks.
It seems as though every day, I see something that makes me say out loud, “What the hell is wrong with people?”
Case in point. Presumptive GOP Presidential Nominee Donald Trump gave an interview to Time magazine recently. It appears in the current edition. Throughout the primary process, when asked for his positions on various issues facing our nation and what he’d do if he becomes the 21st Century’s version of Grover Cleveland by serving two nonconsecutive presidential terms, most of his responses have either been evasive or a stream of consciousness morass of non sequiturs and gobbledygook. When pressed by Time, he continued his tradition of spewing incoherence; however, for the first time, he gave some concrete answers as to what a second Trump presidency would look like. It ain’t pretty, folks.
If Trump is re-elected, according to his own words we can expect:
That he’ll be a dictator, “but only for the first day.”
He’ll use the Comstock Act, an 1873 anti-obscenity law that was passed for the purpose of curtailing material “intended for producing abortion, or for any indecent or immoral use.” Included in this “indecent material” is birth control and anything related to sexual health. Trump will use it to ban the safe and effective abortion pill mifepristone.
He’ll allow the states to punish women who have abortions.
He will punish hospitals that provide transgender care.
He’ll open migrant detention camps and use the military and the National Guard to fill them with undocumented residents.
He’ll fire any Attorney General who does not investigate and prosecute the people he tells the Justice Department to go after.
He’ll pardon the January 6 insurrectionists.
He’ll deploy the National Guard against protestors.
He says that there will be violence if he loses the election.
He will enact a mass firing of civil servants and replace them with Trump loyalists.
He’ll bomb Mexico. Don’t ask me why.
He will “terminate the Constitution.”
He will investigate political adversaries.
He will reinstate and expand the ban on people coming from Muslim countries.
He will end birthright citizenship.
He will pull America out of NATO.
He’ll gut the EPA.
He will grant immunity to all police officers, making it illegal to prosecute them for any wrongdoing or wrongful deaths.
He will terminate the Department of Education.
He’ll make “stop and frisk” policies mandatory.
He’ll allow people to shoot shoplifters.
He will institute federal takeovers of Democratic cities such as Washington D.C., Chicago and New York City.
I suppose it could be worse. At least he didn’t say that he would encourage people to throw puppies in gravel pits and shoot them in the face.
As disturbing as all thinking Americans and true patriots will find this agenda, what bothers me the most is when Trump was asked how all of this would go over and he said, “The people like it.” For once in his life, he’s actually telling the truth. According to most polls, Trump holds a narrow lead over President Biden. That means that at least half the country is okay with flushing 250 years of democracy down the toilet. They’re fine with essentially saying that every American who fought and died for democracy and freedom in the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam and the wars in the Middle East are, as Trump calls them, “suckers.”
As I said, ”What the hell is wrong with people??”
